Worthing Birdman.

Worthing Birdman was originally known as Bognor Birdman, before the change in location in 2008, to Worthing. The competition was founded in 1971 at nearby Selsby, West Sussex. The competition invloves running off the end of the Pier and attempting to "fly" the furthest distance. There are three categoriesthatcan be entered, The Condor Class for modified gliders, The Leonardo da Vinci Class for home made human powered aircraft and the Kingfisher Class for fancy dress costumes. Most peole taking part raise huge amounts of money for charity, and the others are in it for the £30,000 jack pot prize for flying th furthest. Distances over 100 metres have been achieved. The competition attracts European Teams, and is widely publicised on national television. Celebrities such as Sir Richard Branson and Eddie the eagle have taken the pluge of death in the past.
