ITV Central News and BBC Radio Derby

Christmas 2009, Colin Green and the ITV film crew visited me in my workshop. They interviewed me regarding my quirky automata models. Colin Green at that time was broadcasting a series called “Show us yer shed” and it was about how people adapted their garden sheds. I personally don’t own a shed, but I had produced an automata called’ “Go organic, plop ‘n’ grow” and it is based around an allotment shed and composting toilet. The following day after the broadcast I received a phone call from BBC Radio Derby. They had seen me on ITV and wanted me to come in and do a short interview about my automata models.

Commission Autumn 2009.loughborough-Carillon

I was approached by CAFF-Charnwood Action For Fair-trade to produce a automata that would be the centre exhibit at their Fair Trade fair, which took place In early November 2009. CAFF originates from Loughborough and they wanted the automata to reflect Loughborough. The decision was made that the automata would be based on the Loughborough Carillon and War Museum.

Loughborough Carillon was Britain’s first Carillon Tower to be built during 1922-23. The tower was built by public subscription in memory of the local people killed in the Great War of 1914-1918, and later, the World War of 1939-45. The Carillon Tower keeps alive the memory of all comrades, and allows future generations to respect those sacrifices. The Carillon Tower is now home to the War Memorial Museum, consisting of three floors of militaria, focusing mainly on the Leicestershire Yeomanry Regiment.

The exterior of the automata resembles the carillon Tower and the interior of the model portrays the militaria that is on display with the Carillon’s War Memorial Museum. Parachutes, flags, weapons, medals, uniforms and a propeller from a ww1 Sopwith Scout plane are just a few of the many things on display which I have portrayed within the automata. One of the most important features of the Carillon is the 47 bells it houses and the keyboard that operates the bells.

Norway with Chris Tarrant.
Martins World Group are working alongside the Norwegian Tourist board to produce a tourist brochure and adjoining DVD to advertise and promote Norway as a unique holiday destination. Chris Tarrant presented and narrated the programme on the DVD. I was asked by Martins World Group, to produce a drawing of a Lynx while on location. Footage was shot of me while drawing, which is shown within the DVD.
